The University of Cologne has appointed PD Dr. Kathrin Lampert as an Adjunct Professor (außerplanmäßige Professorin, APL Professor). With this appointment, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences recognizes Dr. Lampert’s outstanding achievements in research and teaching.
Since 2017, Kathrin Lampert has been working at the Institute of Zoology as a lecturer, where she primarily teaches students in the teacher training programs (MEd Gym/Ges/BK). In her research, Dr. Lampert investigates how ecological processes and evolutionary history shape patterns of biodiversity. Her work combines molecular data, evolutionary theory, and ecology to understand how genetic variation is maintained and how evolutionary forces act on both micro- and macroevolutionary levels. She also studies the evolution and maintenance of clonal reproduction in vertebrates. Currently, she is involved in two subprojects within the Collaborative Research Center (CRC) 1211 Earth – Evolution at the Dry Limit.
The APL Professorship is awarded to scholars who have made exceptional contributions to the academic advancement of their field. It is regarded as recognition of long-term and successful scientific work.
