Neurosciences in Cologne

The Neurosciences play an essential role in understanding animal and human behavior in health and disease. Within the vibrant Cologne Research Community there are research groups focusing on nearly every aspect of the nervous system, from biochemical analysis to neuron-centered and neural network analysis to regulation of motor behavior and metabolism, as well as on theoretical approaches to neural network functioning.

Neuroscience Research groups are located in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences in the Institutes of Biochemistry, Developmental Biology, Genetics and Zoology, and in the Medical Faculty in the Neurological Clinic and the Institute of Human Genetics.

Interdisciplinary research is a word written in capital letters in Cologne, as shown by manifold collaborative interactions of Cologne‘s Neuroscience Research groups.

Master of Science (M.Sc.) "Experimental and Clinical Neuroscience"

This Master of Science program is an interfaculty/interdisciplinary research-orientated degree program of both the Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences taught in English starting in the fall of 2018. The successful completion of the two years program will lead to the award of the Masters of Science (MSc) degree. The program enables students to specialize in the field of Experimental and Clinical Neurosciences.

Master of Science (M.Sc.) "Biological Sciences"

The Master of Science in Biological Sciences program is research-oriented and taught in English. The successful completion of the two years program will lead to the award of the Masters of Science (MSc) degree. With the program students will acquire a strong background in basic biological science and in modern biological research practice. Specialization in Neurobiology is possible.

Graduate Program "Circuit Analysis on the Cellular and Subcellular Level"

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and the Faculty of Medicine offer this DFG-funded structured graduate programme, which focusses on advancing our understanding of neural network function at the cellular and subcellular level.
